Southern Alberta Family Farm Wedding

January 13, 2019

The moment I arrived to Tamara’s family farm I was surrounded by people who wanted to help me out in whatever way they could, whether it be offering me snacks or helping me hang all of the dresses out in the barn. Her dad (who also MADE that wooden archway you see during the ceremony!) was especially helpful in trying to get the dresses still for the photo on what was quite a windy day! I really can’t thank them enough, and it’s those little things that give this wedding a special place in my heart. There’s something truly special about getting married on your own farmland surrounded by all of your family, friends… and horses!

I was so excited when Tamara (former Medicine Hat Stampede Royalty) asked for photos with her very own horse who has been through so much with her as I learned during her parents heartfelt speech later on. As it’s my family tradition to attend the rodeo every year I had actually seen her when she was the Stampede Princess. Of course she looked even more like a princess on this day as she married her prince charming!

It was a windy day, but also quite hazy as the smoke from fires in northern Alberta and BC had floated down this way. None of that bothered this couple though, and in my opinion this weather only added to their photos. Of course on a wedding day you get whatever weather comes, but even for my other couples and engagement sessions I try to persuade my clients to stick it out when the weather isn’t perfect. The elements can be a photographers blessing if they can work with it!

While we were shooting formals the couple had another special request that made me giddy – they wanted to head to Chance’s farm where they would bring in a fire truck! He is a volunteer fire fighter along with one of his groomsmen, and I was thrilled to be able to capture that part of his life on their day. It was so much fun and the field was gorgeous, so of course these are just a few of the thousand pictures I took there!

Tamara and Chance’s wedding day was full of so much love and laughter, and I’m so honoured that I was able to be a part of their gorgeous wedding day. Shoutout to all of the vendors listed below (and anyone I missed) for helping make this day perfect!
